Children who are alone due to
the AIDS pandemic are being
given hope.
Every 14 seconds AIDS turns a child into an orphan and almost 20
million of these children live in sub-Saharan Africa.
We are supporting people with HIV and families who have lost parents
through AIDS, and in the case of a parent with HIV we help to make plans and provision for their children.
We are helping to avoid the alternative - children without homes
or schools, forced into begging, crime or prostitution in order to survive;
and confused because all the adults in their
lives are dead.
We provide AIDS orphans with materials to keep their homes weatherproof,
with basic household items, food, clothing and education costs. We then provide training and resources to enable them to be
self sufficient - seeds, animals and agricultural tools, resources to start up a micro-enterprise, training in a skill.
Help with basic needs - many Aids orphans
are living in abject poverty without a roof over their heads or even the basic resources that they need to survive. We provide
them with food and household items such as mattresses, cooking utensils and basins. We also ensure that they have a roof over
their heads by building new homes or repairing existing ones.
Education and training - ensures
that all children in our care have access to education or skills training. We pay for school fees, uniforms and books. We
believe that education is the key to their future.
Help with long term survival -
by
helping children and families in our care with farming, establishing a small business or skills training, we secure their
economic future. This enables them to eventually to become self-sufficient and in many cases restore their hope and dignity.
Adult Support - there are millions of Aids orphans growing up without adult guidance.
Many of these orphans are caring alone for their brothers and sisters. We ensure that all children in our care have access
to a trained support worker or community leader
for advice, counselling, support and encouragement.
We support Child and Grandparent-headed
families to enable them to stay together. This involves providing basic resources such as food, shelter and household items.
We ensure that children have access to education and we provide training and resources.
This enables them to secure their economic future and become self-sufficient.
A trained support worker or community leader is also available to
all families for advice, counselling and encouragement.
