SSER Donates ˘1 Million to ALL CHILDRENS HOME
The Statistical, Social and Economic Research (SSER) has, in a pre-Christmas gesture, presented
an amount of ˘1 million to ALL CHILDRENS HOME($1000), a non-profit, charitable organization involved in supporting children’s
homes and taking care of orphaned and other vulnerable children, including those with HIV/AIDS, in Ghana. According to Dr.Francis
Anyomi, a Research Fellow of SSER, the donation was to show appreciation for the various forms of support SSER received from
society in the course of pursuing its mandate of conducting research that informs social and economic development policies. The
amount, mobilized through contributions by the 50 members of staff of the Institute, was handed over by a Senior Research
Fellow of ISSER, Dr. George Y.Rich, and the Administrative Secretary of SSER, Mrs. Grace Boateng,to the Home Director of ALL
CHILDRENS HOME, Mr. Theophillus Boadu, at a ceremony at the orphanage near Aburi, in the Eastern Region. The
founder of ALL CHILDRENS HOME, Mr. Jason Harkins,welcoming the delegation from SSER,discussed the mission of ALL CHILDRENS
HOME and thanked them for their gift. The visitors were then taken round the orphanage home to see indigenous buildings of
thatch, mud, and wood, and art designs from Southern Ghana.They were also shown the orphanage’s alternate power sources
such as wind mills , as well as farms which produce food and vegetables, some of which is sold to raise income. Present
were the Home-Father,Mr. Jason Harkins, and the Human Resource and Projects Manager, Mr. Asem K. Alex. The
orphanage accommodates about 60 children aged between a day and 18 years. In addition,ALL CHILDRENS HOME acts as an umbrella
institution which assists over 20 children’s homes in the country, through education and training, food supplies, and
health care for HIV/AIDS infection and cerebral palsy, among others. Further,ALL CHILDRENS HOME caters for adult homes and
also individuals located in, or living in nearby communities.
